Student Project: 2018

Concept

No longer is bullying confined to the schoolyard; and with the rise of the internet comes new ways of bullying others nonstop. Bullying has become an epidemic that affects not only children but parents, teachers, and the community. ‘The I Am Project Park Parade’ serves to provide a space where people from different backgrounds within one community can come together to learn and express themselves to take a pledge to stand up to bullying. The project is aimed at those 16 years and older who are aware of the impact bullying has had in their workplace, home, and school. Research has shown that an end to bullying starts with a change in behavior. With more awareness and education this major social issue can decrease within communities one by one.

The core idea of this design solution is human connection; thus, the use of hand-painted typefaces and personalized textures create all the collaged graphics. Self-produced content makes up the identity of the campaign giving the overall design a one-of-a-kind look. The poster, banner, and brochure have complimentary design assets, but irregular color structures which make it a dynamic brand identity. With overlays of bright colors and energetic randomized patterns, the concept to end bullying is portrayed in a new light so potential audiences will feel welcome to become involved.

Layers and layers of Collage: handwritten type, hand drawn illustrations, painted textures, and authentic paper overlays

On the very back layer of each deliverable is a texture similar to that of a newspaper. This layer is a full sheet of original written stories from those who have been bullied before and the things that their bullies might have said to them. Collaged on top of the newspaper textures are powerful visuals, patterns, and handwritten statements. All together there are more than twenty layers of different elements all working simultaneously to create the identity system.
