Farmers.gov Design System Library
Farmers.gov provides farmers, ranchers, and producers a single online resource center supporting conservation, technical assistance, and disaster relief programs. With this new online customer experience built on Salesforce, they no longer need to use paper forms or access multiple, disconnected websites to access resources. A Design System Library was created and curated in order to give designers and developers guidelines to further expand webpages and resources in a cohesive manner. The Design System Library included both foundational and component-specific pages that supplied the overall project with a clear design direction. Comprehensive development specs, such as pixel and hex-code guidelines, were also included to ensure overall quality.

“We set out to make producers’ experiences more integrated and human-focused.”
— Case Study | USDA seeds of success
The comprehensive restructuring effort and organization of a centralized library for foundational elements and design components on Farmers.gov resulted in streamlined processes for designers and developers. This consolidated resource offered detailed guidance for diverse collaborators, promoting consistency in the design and development phases. This cohesiveness improved communication with developers, increasing transparency and productivity and saving time.
Additionally, the design system's integration into Farmers.gov enhanced the end product by ensuring a consistent digital customer experience. We achieved this through collaborative efforts with USDA to identify and implement new design components that addressed customer needs and aligned with business goals.
